BreastScreen Victoria stands with Jane Garrett, MP

BreastScreen Victoria extends its support to Victorian Member of Parliament, Jane Garrett, along with her loved ones following Thursday’s news that of her diagnosis with breast cancer.

BreastScreen Victoria CEO, Vicki Pridmore wishes the 43-year-old the best for her treatment and recovery.

“Jane Garrett is a great advocate of BreastScreen Victoria’s work and our thoughts are with her and her family,” Ms Pridmore said.

The latest Cancer Australia statistics for 2016 suggest that the incidence of new breast cancer cases for women aged 40-44 (61.8 per 100,000 cases), like Ms Garrett, is half that of women aged 50-54 (122.1 per 100,000 cases).

Cancer Australia recently released this tool to help women without any symptoms of breast cancer better understand their risk of being diagnosed with the disease compared to other women their age.

Women aged in their 40s are welcome to attend a BreastScreen Victoria clinic with invitations commencing once women turn 50. BreastScreen Australia recommends that a regular breast screen remains the best way of monitoring for any change in breast tissue with early detection giving women the best chance of successful treatment and recovery.
